كتاب إحكام صنعة الكلام للوزير الأندلسي "أبي القاسم محمد بن عبد الغفور الكلاعي الإشبيلي، من الكتب المهمّة التي بقيت على عوادي الزمن التي اجتاحت الآثار الأندلسية، وأتت على كثير منها بالضياع والتبديد. وترجع أهميته في الدرجة الأولى، إلى أنه يبحث في أمور نقدية وبلاغية، حيث وضع المؤلف كتابه لدراسة النثر وفنونه، وبحث ضروب الكلام وأنواعه وسماه (رسالة إحكام صنعة الكلام) إشارة إلى أنه في موضوع النثر ويمكن أن نلخص أهمية هذا المصنف في أربعة أمور.
أولاً في أنه يحتوي على آراء مختلفة في كثير من أمور النقد والبلاغة. وبعض هذه الآراء خاص بالمؤلف، ومن استنباطه واختراعه. ثانياً في الكتاب إشارات إلى ما يعضد فكرة شعور الأندلسيين بتفوقهم وتقدمهم، ثالثاً وفيه إشارات على عدد من الكتب المشرقية التي كانت متداولة في الأندلس. رابعاً: يتبين القارئ لهذا الكتاب بوضوح أثر المعري وظهور أسلوبه من النثر الفني، ويتبين أيضاً ظهور طريقة المتنبي في الشعر على غيرهما من المشارقة في أساليب الأندلسيين وطرائقهم. وباستعراض فصول الكتاب نتبين انه في مقدمة وبابين. يتعلق الباب الأول بالكتابة وأدائها، وما يتعلق بأسبابها، وهو ينتظم عدة فصول تبحث في رتبه الخط وتسوية البطاقة، والاستفتاح والدعاء... وأما الباب الثاني وهو معظم الكتاب وقسمه الهام وفيه يتحدث عن ضروب الكلام، والأسجاع... وقد جاءت هذه النسخة محققة.
وتجلى عمل المحقق في المقابلة بين النصوص المنقولة في هذا الكتاب من الكتب الأخرى، أكمل النقص في العبارات المنقولة في مصادرها، وأتمم عبارات المؤلف التي سقط منها كلمة أو حرف بما يلائم المقام، قوّم الأبيات الشعرية، خريج الأحاديث التي استشهد بها المؤلف في مصنفه، ضبط النص رجع في مسائل الكتاب وأبوابه إلى المظانّ التي قدر أنها تفيد في التحقيق أو تعين القارئ على استجلاء النص، أو إيضاح مواضع غامضة منه، أو تلقي ضوءاً على مصادر المؤلف التي أخذ عنها.
