ولد عام 1948 في مدينة بغداد.
نال بكالوريوس الآداب 1969, وماجستير فقه اللغة بتقدير ممتاز 1973, ودكتوراه فقه اللغة بتقدير ممتاز 1978.
تدرج في وظائف هيئة التدريس بقسم اللغة العربية بجامعة بغداد منذ 1973 حتى وصل إلى الأستاذية.
شارك في العديد من المؤتمرات واللقاءات والمهرجانات الأدبية والشعرية على المستوى المحلي والعربي والدولي.
نشر الكثير من شعره وأبحاثه اللغوية والأدبية في عشرات دكتور محمد حسين آل ياسين .

مؤلفاته منها : مقدمة في الأصول اللغوية المشتركة بين العربية والعبرية - الأضداد في اللغة- العربية وبعض ظواهرها القديمة - الدراسات اللغوية عند العرب.
حصل على جوائز شعرية, من جامعة بغداد, وجمعية المؤلفين والكتاب, والمجمع العلمي, واتحاد الأدباء وغيرها.

يضم هذا الكتاب مجموعة أبحاث كتبها "محمد حسين آل ياسين" في أوقات مختلفة وفي أزمنة متفاوتة، يجعها أنها في تاريخ العربية ومصادرها، وقد رأى أن يؤلف بينها في كتاب، يكون بين أيدي الباحثين والمعنيين بتاريخ هذه اللغة الشريفة، ومصادرها المهمة؛ لما في جمعها من فائدة لهم.
وهذه الأبحاث وعددها اثناء عشر بحثاً منقسمة بطبيعتها إلى قسمين، الأول: يشمل الأبحاث التي تعالج موضوعات نظرية في تاريخ اللغة العربية وظواهرها ومدارسها، والثاني: يدور حول مصادر تلك الأبحاث التي تناولت مناهج تلك المصادر بالدرس منتقدة أساليب تحقيقها، ومفهرسة لها.
