للعلامة ابن الجوزي كتاب يعد من أهم الكتب التراثية وأنفسها في بابه وأغزرها علماً وهو كتاب "الأذكياء" وفيه يجمع المصنف طرفاً من أخبار الأذكياء الذين قويت فطنتهم وتوقد ذكاؤهم لقوة جوهرية عقولهم قاصداً بذلك أولاً: معرفة أقدارهم بذكر أحوالهم، ثانياً: تلقيح ألباب السامعين إذا كان فيهم نوع استعداد لنيل تلك المرتبة تأديب المعجب برأيه إذا سمع أخبار من تعسر عليه لحاقه.
ولما كان الكتاب من أهم الكتب وجدير بالعناية والاقتناء فقد اعتنى به المحقق عناية خاصة، فعمد إلى تحقيقه والتقديم له بهدف إجلاء أي غموض يعتريه وقد تجلى عمله بـ: أولاً: تخريج الآيات القرآنية التي وردت في صلب البحث، ثانياً: التعليق على بعض من الأحاديث الواردة في الكتاب، ثالثاً: شرح الألفاظ الغامضة وإنشاء عناوين لبعض من تحدث عنهم المؤلف، رابعاً: مهد الكتاب بترجمة للمضيف تبين علمه وفضله ومنزلته وقدره بين العلماء.
