اختلفت الآراء في تدريس العلوم الهندسية باللغة العربية، فالبعض يرى أن هذه الخطوة تؤثر سلباً في التعليم الهندسي بحجة أن اللغة العربية غير قادرة على مواكبة النهضة العلمية والتكنولوجية في هذا العصر، بينما يرى البعض الآخر أن تدريس العلوم الهندسية باللغة العربية ضرورة يجب الأخذ بها في أقرب وقت، ذلك أن من أساسيات استقلال أي أمة من الأمم وتميّزها ارتباطها بلغتها الأصيلة وعدم استبدالها بلغة أخرى.
إن من أهم النتائج التي يمكن استخلاصها في هذا الكتاب أن تعريب التعليم الهندسي عملية متشعبة الجوانب، تحتاج إلى مزيد من الدراسة المتأنية، ووضع الخطط العامة والتفصيلية، وتوفير الإمكانيات البشرية والمادية، وبذل الجهود والعمل لفترات متصلة، وبصفة دائمة.
الكتاب يتكون من فصول سبعة وخاتمة، يتناول الفصل الأول التعليم الهندسي في المملكة العربية السعودية. في الفصل الثاني يُعرض مختصر للجهود المبذولة من قبل المؤسسات المهتمة بتعريب العلوم في الدول العربية. وفي الفصل الثالث تناقش أهداف تعريب التعليم الهندسي وأساسياته ومعوقاته. أما واقع تعريب التعليم الهندسي في المملكة العربية السعودية فيُعرض في الفصل الرابع. ويشتمل الفصل الخامس على عرض نتائج الدراسة لمعرفة آراء أعضاء هيئة التدريس في كلية الهندسة في جامعة الملك سعود. كما يتناول الفصل السادس نتائج الدراسة لمعرفة آراء طلاب كلية الهندسة في تلك الجامعة. أما الفصل السابع فإنه يتضمن اقتراح إنشاء مركز وطني لتعريب التعليم الجامعي...
