ينبع سلوك اليهود من معتقداتهم الدِّينية، الواردة في كتابيهم المقدَّسين: التوراة والتلمود، ومن اعتقادهم بأنهم "شعب الله المختار" ولا بدَّ لفهم شخصيَّة اليهودي من دراسة كتابيه المقدَّسين المذكورين بحياد وتعمُّق.
والجزء الأول من هذا الكتاب هو ترجمة عربية عن كتاب انكليزي لدراسة وضعها عالم لاهوتي مسيحي، يبيِّن فيها تاريخ التوراة وغاياتها وطريقـة وضعها بأدلة علمية دامغة.
وأما الجزء الثاني فقد وضعه مترجم الدارسة آنفة الذكر، وهو ثمرة تعمُّقه في دراسة المؤلفات والنظريات التي وضعها علماء يهود عن التوراة؛ فجميع مصادره لمؤلفين يهود. وكل ما ذكره موثق بدقة، لنفي تهمة التحامل علــى التوراة واليهودية ديناً، ولإعطاء قارئ العربية فكرة واضحة عن طريقة معالجة اليهود أنفسهم مواضيع تاريخهم ودينهم.
إنه كتاب يجدر بكل عربي الاطلاع على مضمونه لانه يكشف له عن حقائق كثيرة ومثيرة يجهلها.
