الناظر في (يعلم آخراً) المجموعة القصصية الجديدة للكاتب السعودي عبد الله المطمي، يلحظ تمرده على قواعد القصة التقليدية، واقترابه من لغة القصة الجديدة في نموذجها وإيحاءاتها، وتكثيف الرؤية فيها والإيماءات، ثم التطرق إلى المعاني الخفية، مع الحفاظ على جوهر الفن القصصي، وهو السرد الذي يؤول إلى أحداث ووقائع وحالات مأزومة للشخوص، ومن يستعرض "يعلم آخراً"، يدرك على الفور حرص المطمي، على استخدام لغة إشارية، تنبثق من خلال الوصف الحركي، وتؤازر اللغة المبطنة حيناً، والواضحة حيناً آخر من خلال بعض المشاهد: تحت عنوان (لغة) نقرأ: عندما دلفت صالة الإنتظار المزدحمة والضاجة بالكلام، يسبقها عطرها الفواح. جلست صامتة، وتولى جسدها ثرثرته فأسكت كل من في الصالة". بهذه الاية تأتي قصص المجموعة، فتجذب اهتمام القارىء عبر كلمات موحية، ورسم للصور من دون التعبير المباشر بمغزى الأفكار، وقد ترك كاتبها للقارىء قراءتها بالشكل الذي يريد، وبهذا يكون المطمي قد مارس سحره على المتلقي، وأدخله عالمه طوعاً، وهذا هو امتيازه.
يضم الكتاب مجموعتين قصصيتين: الأولى: "قصص قصيرة"، وتضم سبعة قصص، والثانية "قصص قصيرة جداً" وتضم عشرة قصص، نذكر من العناوين: "أزمة" ، "لغة" ، "خيانة" ، "سكر" ، "إعاقة" ، "نسيان" ، "مغادرة" وعناوين أخرى.
