في هذه الرواية التي تعيد فيها الكاتبة معالجة الجنس في ظاهرة الحريم، وتقلب العلاقة القائمة على المطاردة بين شخصين، نجد أنها، كمؤرخة للفن وكامرأة معاً، تقارب موضوعها من زوايا نظر مختلفة؛ إضافة إلى ذلك تمتعنا الكاتبة برصد تفاصيل الحياة في جناح الحريم، وتكشف عن حقائقه الداخلية، والنظام السائد فيه، والعادات والأعراف المرعية، وسهرات اللهو، والمراسم الرسمية، وتربية الجواري، وملابسهن ومجوهراتهن، وديكور المكان، وكل ذلك بلغة ممتعة.
