ساد الظن في عهدنا بعد أن قعدت بالناس الهمم عن بلوغ الغاية القصوى من العلم والمعرفة، وتفشى في طلاب العلم روح الكسل والإخلاد إلى الاكتفاء بالقليل من المعرفة والعزوف عن التراث الإسلامي والتفرغ لدراسته والتعمق في فحصه درساً وتأليفاً، إن التأليف والإبداع فيه خصوصاً فيما رغب عنه العلماء إلا القليل منهم، وهو علوم اللغة العربية، قد وقف وانتهى عند أئمة اللغة العربية المشهورين. وكان آخر من برز في هذا الميدان محمد مرتضى الزبيدي صاحب "تاج العروس". إن العلماء المتأخرين قد عقموا فلم ينبغ أحد منهم حتى يجدوا في فنون اللغة شيئاً وأنه لم يعد هناك مدلول صحيح لقول الشاعر: كم ترك الأول لآخر. ويتلاشى هذا الظن بعد أن طلع الباحث اللغوي المحقق محمد بن محمد بن عبد الجبار السماوي بكتابه الفذ الرائع (الموسوعة العربية في الألفاظ الضدية والشذرات اللغوية) في تسعة مجلدات. والكتاب موسوعة حَوَتْ ألفاظاً ضدية وشذرات لغوية، وفرائد مستملحة، ونكت مستحسنة، قدمها المؤلف مع شرح لها واستشهاد بمدلولها بآي من القرآن الكريم، واستطراد لما قاله بعض أئمة التفسير المشهورين ولما ذكر في الأحاديث النبوية مع شروح لها واستشهاد على معانيها من كلام العرب. ومما زاد تلك المادة فائدة وغنى ذاك التنسيق والترتيب والتبويب الذي حظيت به من قبل المؤلف. وكان اعتماده فيما حرره ونقحه وهذبه على مصادر صحيحة مشهورة، وأقاويل تمّ إسنادها إلى أربابها، خالية من التصحيف والتحريف.
