يتضمن هذا الكتاب تحقيق للنسخة الخطية من مخطوط "الجواهر المكلَلة في الأخبار المسلسلة" للإمام الحافظ شمس الدين محمد عبد الرحمن السخاوي المتوفي سنة (902هـ).
ولأهمية هذا المخطوط عمل الدكتور "كمال عبد الفتاح فتوح" إلى إثبات نسبة الكتاب للإمام شمس الدين السخاوي بالإستناد وإلى أكثر الذين ترجموا للإمام السخاوي والتعريف بالنسخ الخطية الأصلية المعتمدة في التحقيق ومنها "النسخة الباكستانية"، و "نسخة تشتربيتي بدبلن" وإقتصر عمله كما يقول "في تحقيق المخطوطة على إعادة كتابة النص وتصحيحه من الأخطاء الإملائية، وتخليصه من التصحيفات والتحريفات…"
تأتي أهمية الأخبار المسلسلة أو معرفة "المسلسل" من كونها علم من علوم الحديث المتعددة التى إعتنى بها المحدثون وأفردوها بالبحث والتصنيف… ولعل من أبرز فوائدها؛ فضيلة الإقتداء بالنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وبأفعاله الشريفة ونحو ذلك، ومن فوائدها أيضاً بيان مزيد الضبط من الرواة والتأكد من خلو السند من "التدليس"، و"الإنقطاع" وأفضل المسلسلات ما دلَ على إتصال السند ومن فائدتها أيضاً: معرفة مخرج الحديث وتعيين ما يقع من الرواة مهملاً، وكذلك تعيين الرواة الذين تتشابه أسماؤهم أو إستركوا في تسمية واحدة؛ فبالتسلسل وبإعطائهم صفة معينة، بتعيَين إسم الراوي المقصود، وبذلك يدفع توهم الغلط بمعرفة المهمل والمتشابه من أسماء الرواة… ولا شك أن "المسلسل" بالأمور السابقة أو غيرها، إحدى الطرق المهمة لكشف اللبس المتعلق بالتكرار والنقل، أو غير ذلك من الإشكاليات المتعلقة بأسماء الرواة وكناهم؛ ومن فوائد المسلسلات المهمة عند الفقهاء: الترجيح للنص الذي يدور بسند مسلسل على نص عارضه بنفس الدرجة؛ ولهذا فقد عد العلماء بعض المسلسلات بأنها تفيد العلم القطعي، كالمسلسل بالأئمة الحفاظ، والمسلسل بالفقهاء، والمسلسل بقراءة سورة الصف وغيرها…
وعليه، إحتوى هذا الكتاب على (102) حديثاً تحت عنوان "الجواهر المكللة في الأخبار المسلسلة" نذكر منها: المسلسل بالأولية، المسلسل بالآخرية، مسلسل آخر بيوم عاشوراء، المسلسل بإجابة الدعاء في الملتزم، المسلسل بالصوفية، المسلسل بالنحاة…إلخ.
