كما يتناول أيضاً العناصر الدخيلة ومدى تفاعلها مع التصورات الإسلامية، كما ويتضمن كثيراُ من المعلومات التاريخية التي تتعلق بالفرق الصوفية ونشأتها وشيوخها والمناطق التي تواجدت بها وأثر هذه الفرق بأفكارها وسلوكياتها في الحياة الاجتماعية للبلدان التي تواجدت بها. وكذلك صلة هذه الفرقة بالحياة السياسية في البلدان الإسلامية المختلفة. إلى جانب هذا يضم الكتاب كماً كبيراً من المصطلحات الصوفية التي تساعد كثيراً في فهم مذاهب التصوف وسلوك المتصوفة.
