هذه الرواية في فكرتها العامة ميثلوجيا متوارثة نسجتْ خيوطُها في كلّ بيت عُماني يغادره أحدُ أفراده بشكل طبيعيّ كالمرض أو أي شكل آخر للموت، إلا أنَّ انتظار العودة أهله غالباً لا يصدِّقون موته المفاجئ فيوضع في فكرة الغياب والبعد حيّاً في مكانٍ ما تحت الأرض، كما يوضع فكرة انتظار العودة المرتقبة.
إنَّ هذه الرواية تحكي فكرة السحر والغياب، التي حيك حولها العديدُ من القصص والحكايات الأسطوريَّة، والتي تمثِّل ملمحاً غرائبيّاً في ذاكرة الإنسان والمكان العُماني؛ وتستقي هذه الرواية بعض ملامحها من هذه الحكايات الشعبية لتعيد نسجها وفق رؤية سردية معاصرة ومغايرة.
وهذا مقتطف من رواية "حفلة الموت"... "أحمد... أريد أقولك شيء... لا... لا... لا أريد أقول أشياء كثيرة... بعدين يا قلبي... بس ترتاحين وتطلعين من المستشفى... أمامنا العمر كله... بنسولف حتى نشبع... لا... لا... الحين أرجوك اسمعني يا أحمد... اسمعني فقط... في ما في وقت... ما في بكرة... أعرف ذلك…
كنت أحكي له الحكاية بِنَفَس مقتطّع... وبين الشهقة والشهقة أتمسّح بالموت: أيها الموت أشفعك الآن بدمعي... وبكل نوبة حادّة من البكاء اغتالتني من لحظة مولدي حتى الآن... أن تتركني فقط حتى أتمّ حكايتي عليه... ثم خذني إليك كما تشاء... وإلى أيّ مكان تشاء... فقد بتّ أعرف أنّ لك مساربَ كثيرة ومساحات غير معلنة غير القبور والسماء... فقط دعني أقصّ عليه حكايتي... لقد قطع لساني عن سرد هذه الحكاية منذ ذلك اليوم الذي تعرف... وها هي الوجوه والأسماء تتزاحم على بوّابة ذاكرتي... وتطالبني بفضّ السرّ... وبدأت الحكاية...
