انبثقت فكرة إخراج هذه المطبوعة عن النصوص الجغرافية باللغة الإنجليزية، من مزاولة هذا الفعل لسنوات عديدة تبين خلالها ضعف مستوى التحصيل العلمي، إن لم يكن تدنيه بكل ما يفهم من مدلول هاذين الفعلين، كما ظهر جلياً أيضاً أن هذا الأثر لا يعود في أساسه إلى الطلبة وافتقارهم لموهبة تعلم اللغات من غير العربية، وإنما إلى السلم التعليمي الذي حال بينهم وبين ما قد يعلمهم حروف الهجاء، مما يجعل أمر ممارسة هذه التجربة كمن يبحر بقارب صيد وسط بحر لا تبدو منه غير أمواجه.
كما بدأ أيضاً وبجلاء حسن استعداد غالبية الدارسين الذين أحس جزء منهم بتعثر حظهم الذي رأوا فيه دافعاً لتعويض ما فاتهم بطلب زيادة عدد الساعات المقررة التي تجمع عادة بين كل محدود من المصطلحات، وعدد مماثل أيضاً من نصوص مبسطة ستعجز بالضرورة عن فعل شيء أمام كم هائل منها في أي مرجه يضطرون للعودة إليه.
ومع ذلك لا تسعى هذه المحاولة إلى بلوغ ما يفهم من اصطلاح Geographical Vocabulary، أو مجموعة المفردات الإنجليزية التي على طالب الجغرافيا إدراكها، بقدر ما ترمى إلى ضرورة الماسة بما هو شائع بين طلبة هذا الفرع من العلم الذي انفرد وربما دون غيره بين الجمع بين أساس علمي، وآخر لا يفهم ويتم إدراكه دون وعي أثر الأول على مختلف أوجه النشاط الإنساني.
