في جديدها القصصي "عابرٌ بالباب" تعتمد الكاتبة السعودية زكية نجم المونولوغ، أي القصة التي تنحصر الشخصية الرئيسة فيها في موقعها البؤري وحده، وتجميع خيوط السرد الحكائي في نقطة واحدة، معينة، تضفي عليها أهمية خاصة في الحكاية، وهو ما ينسحب على الشخصية الرئيسية في "عابرٌ بالباب" فعلى الرغم من أنها متحررة من قيود الزمان، وتنوع صيغ السرد، إلا أنها تبقى الشخصة المركزية وبؤرة الحكاية، حيث السرد يتم بضمير المتكلم. وفي هذا النوع من القص تروى الحكاية من وجهة نظر شاهدٍ خارجي يعلم، أو يقول "من أنا، لا أستطيع أن أنتحل إسماً ليس لي، فليكن الإنسان وإن من العار ألا أتذكر شيئاً في الوقت الذي يكون لزاماً عليّ أن أتذكر، بتُ بلا تاريخ ولا هوية وكل ما أملكه الآن جسدٌ ناحل الأطراف راعف الجرح يحاذر أن يموت وحيداً ...". وبناء عليه، يمكن تصنيف الزمن السردي في هذه الحكاية، بالزمن الذهني الذي يتصوره كل من الكاتب والقارىء كليهما ويتم على أساسه تفسير الحكاية من خلال رصيدهما الأدبي والثقافي والمعرفي.
تضم المجموعة القصصية ثلاثة عشر قصة قصيرة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "ساحلُ الذنوب" ، "ذات جناحين" ، "حين ينصتُ المطر" ، "عابرٌ بالباب" ، "تماماً كما كانت تقول" ، "إزارُ النور" ، "بكاء البلابل" ، "ثالوث الفجيعة" ، "ثقوب" ، "خسوف" ، "بقاء" ، "عرس المومياء" ، "الشمس .. تعود".
