الهدف الذي ابتغاه الباحث من رسالته الجامعية التي بين أيدينا والمعنونة بـ"العمل في الإسلام ودوره في التنمية الاقتصادية" هو استكشاف مفهوم العمل في الإسلام، واستيضاح ضوابطه الشرعية، واستبيان دوره في الحياة الاقتصادية؛ والتعريف بالطاقات الفكرية التي يحملها الفكر الإسلامي في مجالات المعرفة والحياة، وللمشاركة بمقترحات قد تكون مفيدة في وضع الحلول المناسبة لإشكالية الاقتصاد والتنمية في جانب العمل عند المسلمين.
والبحث بشكل عام مقسم إلى مقدمة وتمهيد وأربعة فصول: في المقدمة عرض الباحث لإشكالية البحث، وللأسباب التي دعته لاختيار البحث وأهدافه، وفي التمهيد عرض لمصطلحات البحث. أما في الفصل الأول: فتحدث عن مفهوم العمل وانتقل في الفصل الثاني لموضوع تقسيمات العمل، أما الفصل الثالث فخصصه لموضوع الضوابط الشرعية للعمل. وأفرد الرابع والأخير لتبيين دور العمل في التنمية الاقتصادية.
