يدرس هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا فن المديح النبوي في العهد المملوكي وهو في الأصل موضوع لرسالة المؤلف في الدراسات العليا، وقد اختار المؤلف هذا الموضوع لقلة إهتمام بعض الباحثين ومؤرخي الأدب بالعصر المملوكي كإهتمامهم بالعصور السابقة، حتى بلغ القول بتسميته عصر الإنحطاط، إلا أن هذا العصر في الحقيقة هو حقبة غنية زاخرة بالأدباء والشعراء وأصحاب الفكر.
وعليه، تناول الأستاذ غازي شبيب موضوع "المديح النبوي في العصر المملوكي" في مدخل وبابين: المدخل: يتضمن دراسة موجة عن البيئة العامة للعصر المملوكي، تشمل: النواحي السياسية - الإجتماعية - الإقتصادية - الفكرية والدينية، ويتناول الباب الأول الدوافع العامة والخاصة لفن المديح بعامة والنبوي بخاصة ومظاهر هذا الأخير.
أما الباب الثاني فيتناول النسق الفني للقصيدة النبوية من ناحيتي الشكل والمضمون، كما يتناول أثر هذا المديح في الأدب العربي، وما يرمي إليه من حلول نكوصية تعويضية، بالإضافة إلى أعلام هذا الفن، وذلك في أربعة فصول، ختم كل ذلك بتقويم عام.
