وقد قدم المؤلف قبل ذكر المنامات فصولاً ذكر أحكاماً ضرورية وفوائد مهمة تتعلق برؤية النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في المنام، وأيضاً، وضع ترجمة مختصرة لكل من ذكره؛ فجاء الكتاب على الترتيب التالي: الباب الأول: في الرؤيا الصالحة وفضل رؤية النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، الباب الثاني: في أن من رأى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في المنام فقد رآه حقاً، الباب الثالث: في صفة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كما جاءت في الأحاديث الصحيحة، الباب الرابع: في ذكر حكايات للصحابة والتابعين ومَن بعدهم في رؤية النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في المنام.
