تتناول الرواية حياة فتاة عراقية عايشت فترة الاحتلال وهي لا تزال تتلمس معاني الحياة لتجد واقعاً غير الذي حلمت به، فكانت حياتها مجرد أحلام لم يتحقق منها شيء. تبدأ الرواية مع ولادتها وتستعرض في فصولها تعرُّض بطلة الرواية لمجموعة من الأحداث والتجارب التي عايشها مواطنوها خلال سنوات الاحتلال. الرواية من جهة أخرى تعتبر رواية ملحمية تتناول قضية الحب من زوايا جديدة، وتتعرض للمشاعر الإنسانية بعبارات أقرب إلى الشعر منها إلى النثر.
