إننا في هذه الدراسة / الكتاب نستعير مفهوم الأيقونة في بعدها الرقمي الخارج من رحم مفردات الحاسب الآلي، وما أضافته ثقافتُهُ من دلالات لمفهوم الايقونة، إذْ تُعدُّ الأيقونةُ - في نظام الأرشفةِ الرقميةِ مفرداً يشير إلى متعددٍ مخُتَزَنٍ بداخلهِ، بمجرد الضغطِ عليه (أي المفرد / الأيقونة) يتبدَّى الخبيئُ المختزنُ تحت جلدِهِ، أو تتم الإحالة إلى رابطٍ آخرَ، أو روابطَ آخر متعددة.
كما نستعيره أيضاً من حقول الفنِّ بعدما حمَّلهُ الحقل الفنيِّ من دلالات الجمال، فنأتي بهِ - قبلاً - إلى حقل الشِّعر، ومن ثمَّ إلى حقل الروايةِ.
وما كانت تلك المتسلسلةُ التي مرَّرْنَا بها مفهوم "الأيقونة" من الفن إلى الشعر، ثمَّ إلى الرواية، دون القفز به مباشرةً إلى الروايةِ، إلا مراعاةً لدرجة قرابةِ "الأيقونةِ" إلى القول الشعري مِنَها إلى القول الروائي، ولأن درجة قرابةِ المفهوم من القول الروائي إنمَّا تُسْتَمدُّ من درجةِ قرابةِ الروايةِ من الشعر.
