نحن في مجتمع يظلم علم النفس كثيراً بل سائر العلوم التربوية والنفسية، وهذا الظلم لم يأتي من فراغ إنما هو نتيجة طبيعية لظلم النفس ذاتها، نحن في مجتمعات تنظر للإنسان من منظار مادي صرف إنها تهمل الجانب الآخر المهم جداً هو الجانب النفسي (الجانب الروحي)، مع العلم إن كلا الجانبين لا يمكن أن يكون وجود لأحدهم دون الآخر، فهما شيئان أقل ما يقال عنهما أنها (وجهان لعملة واحدة) فلا وجود للنفس بلا جسد ولا جسد بلا نفس، وهنا لا أريد أن أدخل نفسي والقارئ في متاهة العلاقة الجدلية بين النفس والجسد فالمسألة ليست بحاجة لأدلة وبراهين فهي مسألة بديهية.
ولهذا السبب تقع علينا مسؤولية كبيرة في إظهار دور وأهمية العلوم النفسية والتربوية فيما تقدمة خاصة من نتائج الدراسات لغرض الإستفادة منها في مجالات الحياة، والتي لم يعد جانب واحد منها بمنى من الفائدة العلمية لمواضيع علم النفس.
وقد جاءت فكرة تأليف الكتاب الحالي (الصحة النفسية علماً تطبيقياً) لغرض تسخير علم النفس لخدمة الفرد، أي الإستفادة منها في تفسير ومعرفة العديد من الظواهر النفسية المتعلقة بحياة الطالب وأي فرد آخر في المجتمع، وكذلك تسخير فائدتها في كيفية معالجة تلك الظواهر، ولهذا فضلنا أن نظيف إلى اسم الكتاب كلمة (علماً تطبيقياً).
