لكن، بالإذن من كل المعجبات، كان البطل يرتجف هلعاً من الجرذان... الإعجاب المتبادل، بدأت شراراته الأولى، من النوم الإجباري لكليهما معاً، جنباً إلى جنب على سرير حديدي ضيّق عتيق متهالكٍ بين الأنقاض والوحل، هي بكامل ثيابها مع حذاء عسكري في قدميها، وهو بكامل ثيابه وتوقه للتحسّس بها، دون أن يقوى "بطلنا" على الإعتراف ببداية الغرق... بإختصار كبير: بدأ الأمر صدفةً، صارت الصدفة قدراً لكليهما معاً، وانتهى بــ "قُبلة الحياة"... فمٌ لفمٍ، وأنفاسُ إنقاذ...!.
