يشكل هذا الكتاب دراسة في الخطاب الشعري للشاعر السعودي عبد الله الزمزمي (1384-1427ه) أعد الدراسة الأستاذة فاطمة الألمعي، وافتتحت بتمهيد عن بعض العوامل المؤثرة في الشعر العسيري يتبعها فصول ثلاثة وخاتمة، بالإستناد إلى أكثر من منهج، بغية حصر حياة الشاعر وشعره، ودراسة الخصائص الفنية في نتاجه ولا سيما المنهج الأسلوبي وكذلك المنهج النفسي والتاريخي.
في الفصل الأول تحدثت المؤلفة عن حياة الشاعر، وأسرته، التي عُرفت بالأدب والعلم والدين ودواوينه الثلاثة، وما تركه من مخطوطات، والعوامل المؤثرة في شعره، بدءاً بموهبته الفطرية، ومروراً ببيئته، وثقافته ثم عرجت على أهم ما ميزه ممن حوله؛ مرضه بالقلب، وزوجته الراحلة عن عالمه وأثرها على ذاكرته وشعره، يعقب ذلك الفصل الثاني، وتتحدث فيه المؤلفة عن أبرز أغراض شعره وموضوعاته، بدءاً بالأكثر وروداً في ديوانه الشعري، فابتدأت بالغزل، فالشكوى، فالوطنيات، فالرثاء، فالمدح، فوصف الطبيعة، فالإخوانيات، فالهجاء، راصدة الأفكار الواردة في كل موضوع، مع تقسيم الموضوعات إلى أفكار جزئية تفي بالغرض. ثم يأتي الفصل الثالث الذي قسمته إلى مباحث أربعة؛ ابتدأتها بالحديث عن بناء القصيدة في ديوانه الشعري، (خصائص البناء – طول القصيدة – العمق – الوضوح) باثة بينهما الحديث عن عنوان قصائده، ومفاتيحها، ومقدماتها، وأقفالها. وفي المبحث الثاني درست اللغة في شعر الشاعر؛ مجلية عن أوضح سمات الفاظه، وخصائص تراكيبه. ثم جاء المبحث الثالث وتناولت فيه المؤلفة خصائص الصورة الشعرية لدى الزمزمي، ومصادر صوره، وأنواعها. وقد اشتملت دراستها أهم الفنون التصويرية، وأوضحها في ديوانه، وعرجت على الموسيقى، متناولة الموسيقا الداخلية والخارجية لدى الشاعر الزمزمي. وختمت الدراسة بخاتمة، أوجزت فيها أهم ما توصلت إليه من نتائج.
