يهدف الدليل المتواضع الذي أضعه بين يدي القارئ إلى توضيح طرق وملابسات إعداد الأبحاث والدراسات العلمية. ورغم أنه لا يختلف كثيراً في أجزاء معنية منه عن الكتب الأخرى التي عالجت نفس الموضوع، لتشابه أساسيات هذا العلم، إلا أنه يتميز عنها بعدد من النواحي أهمها:
1-أنه أعد ليلائم متطلبات وفهم ومفاهيم طلاب العلم المبتدئين بالبحث العلمي وعلى وجه الخصوص طلاب الجامعات، ولكنه في نفس الوقت لا يخلو من فائدة للمتخصصين.
2-أنه يعالج مواضيع عديدة جداً بقصد أن يكون جامعاً شاملاً قدر الإمكان بهدف تزويد الباحث بأكبر كمية من المعلومات التي قد يحتاجها عند إعداده الدراسات دون أن يحتاج إلى استعمال مراجع.
3-أنه احتوى على عدد كبير جداً من العناوين بهدف مساعدة الباحث على الوصول إلى المعلومة التي يريدها بسرعة ودون أدنى عناء.
4-إنه احتوى على أمثلة كثيرة على وجه الخصوص في كل ما يتعلق بعملية التوثيق (الحواشي والمصادر والمراجع) لكي يسهّل على القارئ فهم هذا الجانب المعقد نسبياً من جوانب إعداد الأبحاث والدراسات.
5-إنه لم يلتزم طريقة واحدة من طرق جمع المعلومات والتوثيق ومناهج البحث والكتابة العلمية بل حاول التعريف بعدد منها بهدف تعريف الباحثين بالطرق المختلفة لكي يختاروا الطريقة التي تناسبهم وتلائم دراستهم.
