يفيض الشاعر في هذا الديوان الذي يحاكي الموت وأسراره وهو نابض بالحياة أكثر من أي وقت مضى، بالوجدانية التي تنصهر فيها الجمالية الشعرية الصافية، مع الأحاسيس الصوفية والمشاعر الدينية، بالمبادئ الفكرية والروحية.
لقد اختار الشاعر منذ البدء الكلمة المؤثّرة القوية ببساطتها، التي تنبع من أعماق دافئة وحقيقية، والتي تسير في دمه قبل أن تخرج من الحبر: "كلامي بسيط/كطفل يغنّي،/فلستُ أحب الكلام الذي/يلبسُ الأقنعة". وسيلتزم بخياره هذا إلى النهاية: "يختارني الكلام أو أختاره،/تفتنني أسراره،/أترك شيئا من دمي/كي لا أكون/مثل عابر سبيل."
تتوزع القصائد على ثلاثة أبواب. في الباب الأول "إيقاعات تائهة" الذي يعترف فيه: "كل معصيتي أنني/أطرح الأسئله"، تتفتح بعض المواضيع المتناثرة شعراً. يقول في النساء مثلاً: "لأسمائهن رنين/كقافلة من خيول الذهب/تطوف في ساحة القلب..".
ويقول في العشق: "والله يُصغي إلى آهة العشق/واللهفة الجامحة/صوت قيس يعانقه صوت ليلى/وبينهما راهب/يقرأ الفاتحه/أُمماً خُلق الناسُ،/والعاشقون/هم الأمة الصالحه". في الباب الثاني "مدائح النار والياسمين" يجد القارئ ثلاثة قصائد مطوّلة، موجهّة إلى ثلاثة راحلين كبار هم ممدوح عدوان، ومحمد الماغوط، ويوسف سلامه.
أما في الباب الثالث "للموت سرّ آخر"، فيطغى الموت بتساؤلاته وتداعياته: "يحتاج الناس لأكثر من موتين/لكي ينتبهوا."، "فإذا انتبهوا جاء الصوت:/"لا ثابت إلا الموت،..."، و"لا وقت أمام الوقت/لغير حراسة باب الموت".
وعند المفصل الثابت بين الحياة والموت الذي لا يخشاه الشاعر: "لم يبق مني سوى جثة/تشتهي أن يمدّ الغياب الثقيل/على وجهها معطفه". بل أنه يتخيل موته ويتخذ منه موقفاً: "في طريقي إلى مأتمي/كان حشد من الأقرباء يرافقني/وأنا من ثقوب رحيلي أراقبهم."، ولولا "اشتياقي إلى الله والجنة المشتهاة/لكنتُ نهضتُ وأبكيتهم،/غير أني اكتفيتُ/بأني بكيتُ/وأقسمت أن لن أعود إلى جسدي مرة ثانية." إنه لا يريد سوى: "لا أريد من الأرض أكثر من رأفة/ومن الناس أكثر من لهفة/ومن الله أكثر من/لفتة حانيه،/الطريق هنا صار صعباً،/وكل الثواني انتظار طويل،.."
"وفهمت أن الموت أبعد من رحيل عابر،/وفهمت أن الله،/كي يبقى إلها،/عندما خلق الحياة وحدّد الغايات/قال: "الموت غايه.."، لكن قد يوجد في دفاتر الأموات "..ما يبدّل القناعات البسيطة.."
