وجه اللغويون العرب أنظارهم إلى الإنسان فدرسوه عضواً عضواً وصفةً صفة وصنفوا في ذلك آثاراً عظيمة النفع ومن بين هذه الآثار الخاصة بالإنسان لطيف الحجم عظيم النفع لأبي جعفر محمد بن حبيب البغدادي أقام ابن حبيب كتبه هذا على أساس معجمي فرتبه على أبواب الأحرف الأبجدية ثم أدرج في كل باب أسماء الأعضاء التي تنتمي إليه مراعياً في ذلك الحرف الأول من العضو غير آبه بجذر الكلمة مع شرح قليل للغاية لبعض الأعضاء وشواهد من الشعر أقل مقدماً لنا كتاباً في خلق الإنسان وقد أقمنا هذا التحقيق على بابين ومسارد عامة تجعل مادة الكتاب مبسوطة بين يدي القارئ في أيسر سبيل ممكن. أما الباب الأول فهو الدراسة وتتألف من عدة فصول. الفصل الأول تعريف بمؤلف الكتاب وشيوخه وتلامذته وآثاره. الفصل الثاني تراث خلق الإنسان في العربية. الفصل الثالث خلق الإنسان لابن حبيب ومآخذنا على طبعته اليتيمة. الفصل الرابع منهجنا في تحقيق الكتاب. وأما الباب الثاني فيضم بين دفتيه النص محققاً تحقيقاً علمياً رصيناً مذيلاً بالمسارد النافعة إن شاء الله تعالى.
