"الحسن بن مسعود اليوسي (1040هـ/1102م)" عاصر فترة حاسمة من تاريخ المغرب، تميزت بانتشار الفوضى، وسيطرة الوهن والضعف على الدولة. وقد أعطى اليوسي فكراً تركيباً وقريحة وذكاء جعله ينفذ إلى عمق ما يدرس ويستوعبه استيعاب الفاحص الناقد المتمكن، وخلف عدداً كبيراً من الكتب والمؤلفات والرسائل.
وفي هذا الكتاب تقدم الباحثة في جزءين عدداً من رسائل اليوسي التي تدور موضوعاتها حول الشؤون العامة وأحوال المجتمع، والتصوف، والتوحيد، والفقه، وحين عرض مضمون الرسائل التي تناولت الحياة العامة وأحوال المجتمع، يتبين أنها تتناول الجوانب الهامة التي طرقها المؤلف في الرسائل الخمسة التي يتضمنها هذا الكتاب إذ يعرض اليوسي لنظريته في الحكم والسلطة القائمة، والعلماء ودورهم في الأمة، ومصالح الأمة المادية والمعنوية، ومحاربة البدعة والجهل وتشويه تعاليم الدين الحنيف.
أما رسائله في التصوف فهي مرسلة إلى أخوة في الطريق وإلى مريدين مبتدئين أو متقدمين. ويظهر منها أن اليوسي يخاطب فئات مختلفة من المتصوفة، وفي رسائل التوحيد يتناول اليوسي قضايا تتعلق بالعقيدة والتوحيد ناقشتها فرق المفكرين من أهل السنة والمتكلمين والدهريين والفلاسفة.
وقد عمدت الباحثة إلى ترتيب الرسائل حسب الأغراض واعتبرت كل رسالة مستقلة على حدة، وسعت للحصول على أكبر عدد من النسخ لها سواء بالتصوير أو بالنقل عن المخطوطات الأصلية. وقد نقلت المتن من النسخة التي رجحت كونها أصلاً، ولم تغفل أثناء ذلك عن تصحيح جميع الأخطاء الإملائية واللغوية والنحوية التي وقع فيها النساخ وقد قسمت الحواشي قسمين: قسم خاص بملاحظات المقارنة، وقسم للهوامش والتعليقات من شرح مفردات وترجمة الأعلام وتخريج الآيات والأحاديث وغير ذلك.
