إن أهمية هذا الكتاب لا تكمن في معارضة الأحكام الناشئة التي أتى بها الاستشراق في عصوره الأولى والوسطى ولا في التدليل على جماليات القرآن تدليلاً أدبياً استشهاداً بالمنظرين المسلمين لقضية الإعجاز، فهذا الكتاب لا يتناول إلا علاقة المسلمين بالقرآن، وكذلك أهمية العوامل الشعورية لهذه العلاقة، وعليه فإن ما يحتل مكان الصدارة هنا هو استقبال القرآن من جمهور متلقيه. أما القرآن ذاته فيتم تقسيمه هنا على عدة فصول وذلك لفحص قضية هل يشترط القرآن طريقة جمالية خاصة باستقباله أو في الأقل يوصى بشيء قريب من هذا.
