يستخدم المعوقون سمعيً طرقاً متنوعة في تواصلها سواء مع أقرانها أو مع ذويهم أو مع باقي أفرد المجتمع، ومهما تنوعت هذه الطرق وتعددت إلا أنها تشترك في الهدف، وهو إيصال معنى أو فكرة ما من شخص لآخر أو من شخص إلى مجموعة أشخاص، وهذا ما يحتم على المعلمين والآباء مساعدتهم على استخدام وسائل اتصال فعالة متى سهلوا عليهم الاندماج بالمجتمع. ومن هنا جاءت فكرة هذا الدليل وهي توفر نماذج اتصال فعّالة تسهل على المعوقين سمعياً استخدمها في حياتهم ويسهل على المستقبلين فهمها أيضاً.
هذا ويحتوي الدليل على تعريف بجهاز النطق وتهذيب عمليات التنفس عند المعوقين سمعياً وترتيب مخارج الحروف عند الإنسان وترتيبها حسب مستوى صعوبة نطقها. وهي جوانب مهمة لكل من يتعامل مع المعوقين سمعياً سواء كانوا المعلمين في الفصل أو الآباء لأنه إذا لم يعرفوا كيفية ومكان تكوين الكلام والأصوات ومتى مكان مخارج الحروف، فإنه من الصعب عليهم التعامل مع الأطفال المعوقين سمعياً وتقديم المساعدة المناسبة لهم، ويشتمل هذا الدليل أيضاً على الحروف الإشارية الأبجدية المستخدمة من قبل الأطفال المعوقين سمعياً. وشرحاً تفصيلياً لطريقة تشكيلها باليد، وربطها بالحروف الأبجدية وتوضيح لكيفية نطقها وتدريسها للأطفال المعوقين سمعياً.
