يضم هذا الديوان مختارات من القصائد، المنشورة في مجموعاتي الشعرية الأربع: المبحرون مع الرياح 1974، تحوّلات الأزمنة 1983، الخروج من الدائرة 1988، حصاد الريح 1995.
وقد راعيت في مختارات الديوان أن تمثل ما كتبت منذ أواخر الستينات حتى تاريخ صدورها، فهي بهذه الحال لا تستغرق كل النصوص المنشورة في المجموعات الشعرية الأربع، ولذلك لم تحمل اسم "الأعمال الشعرية الكاملة" ولكنها تأخذ من كل مجموعة، أو من كل محطة ما يكفي للكشف عن طبيعتها وخصائصها.
وتمثل من النصوص المنشورة في المجموعة الأولى، وبدرجة أقلّ في المجموعة الثانية، البدايات، التي يسعى الشعراء عادة إلى تغييبها، بسبب عدم نضج التجربة، ولكني حريص على إبقائها، لأنها تكشف بأمانة عن مرحلتها، وترتبط بقضايا ومواقف لها أهميتها، وتحرص على التوجُّه إلى جمهور يقف على أرضية ثقافية وإجتماعية تقتضي مدَّ الجسور الموصلة إلى التفاعل معه.
وفيما يخص النصوص المنشورة في المجموعتين الثالثة "الخروج من الدائرة" والرابعة "حصاد الريح" أحسب أنها تمثل مرحلة مغايرة.
