"في هذه الرواية، رصدتُ يوميات عشتُها في دمشق، ما بين الخيال والواقع، وربما بهما معاً، وقد لا أميز مرات، أيّ منهما هو الواقع، الخيال أم الواقع ذاته. مبدتئاً من مدن سورية عديدة، أشخاص قدموا من ثقافات عديدة، محملين ببضائعهم الإنسانية والوحشية معاً، فاخترقوا عوالم الفكر والأدب والفنون، مغرقين المدينة في التهتك، مواصلين رجم المجتمع السوري العريض الذي اشتهر بتعدده وبساطته وتعقيده في الوقت ذاته، وهو ذاته المجتمع الذي سمّاه النظام السوري لاحقاً البيئة الحاضنة للإرهاب مبرراً كل أشكال الإبادة التي طبقها على سكّانه في مدنه وأريافه".
