فواز طرابلسي (1941- ) أستاذ جامعي ومؤرخ لبناني. كان مع أحمد بيضون ووضاح شرارة من أبرز قيادي حركة لبنان الاشتراكي التي اندمجت سنة 1970 مع منظمة الاشتراكيين اللبنانيين لتشكل منظمة العمل الشيوعي في لبنان. أصبح طرابلسي نائبا للأمين العام للمنظمة ثم أحد أبرز وجوه الحركة الوطنية اللبنانية. غادر المنظمة سنة 1984 وذهب إلى باريس لمواصلة دراسته. يحمل دكتوراه في التاريخ من جامعة باريس. شغل منصب رئيس تحرير جريدة الحرية ومجلة بيروت المساء.

يتحدث الكتاب عن زياراته إلى اليمن وما رافقها من أحداث وتجارب من خلال نصوص كتبها منذ مطلع الثمانينات، طمح الكاتب من خلالها إلى اعطاء تقييم لتجربة الحكم اليساري في اليمن الديمقراطي.
على مدى قرابة ربع قرن كنت أزور اليمن بانتظام. وقد بدأ اهتمامي به تضامناً مع الجمهورية في الشمال والنضال الاستقلالي في الجنزب. ومع الوقت نما تعلقي باليمنيين وبلادهم حتى صار اليمن وطني الثاني.
تشكل نصوص هذا الكتاب واحدة من المغامرات الدونكيشوتية عند التخوم الغامضة والخطيرة بين السياسة والثقافة، وتتأرجح بين أدب اليوميات والمذكرات والسير والرحلات.
إنها قصة "وعود عدن" من سكرة آخر قرصان بريطاني إلى الحلم بإعادة بناء إرم ذات العماد على يد رفاق علي بن الفضل القرمطي.
