يعالج البحث ظهور صورة مكة المكرمة في الرواية السعودية، وهل كانت صورة نمطية جامدة أم حيوية متنوعة، كما يستعرض مدى تصوير الرواية للبيئة المكية بكل تجلياتها القديمة والحديثة، عبر الوصف والتحليل لنماذج مختارة، حيث وجدت عدد الروايات التي تتخذ مكة المكرمة مكان أحداثها كبيراً، فقد تجاوزت الثلاثين رواية، فاخترت لكل كاتب الرواية التي وجدت أنها تخدم البحث عبر مادتها وفنياتها.
