يعد تاريخ الفكر الفلسفي الحديث هو الصورة الواضحة المعالم لمجهود الفكر الإنساني، عبر تاريخ الفلسفة الطويل. وإذا كان هذا التطور الفكري يبدو تاريخياً في شكل مترابط ومتشابه، فإن ذلك يعزى إلى ما تتميز به الفلسفة من خصائص الأصالة والدوام. فالفلسفة التي عرفت الديالكتيك، الفكرة ونقيضها، لا تلفظ تاريخها القديم، بل تطوره تشكيلاً وتغييراً، إيجاباً وسلباً، رفضاً وقبولاً، من حيث أنها جزء لا يتجزأ من هذا التاريخ العام، الذي تشكلت فيه مذاهبها ونظرياتها، منذ اليونان وحتى العصر الحديث والمعاصر. وعلى الرغم من اتصال الفكر الفلسفي خلال تاريخه، حتى ليبدو كأنه سلسلة مترابطة الحلقات، إلا أننا نخطئ لو نظرنا إليه ككل متشابه، إذ أن لكل مرحلة فيه خصائص ومميزات تختص بها دون غيرها، فسمات الفكر في العصر القديم تختلف عنها في العصر الوسيط وعصر النهضة، كما أن خصائصه في العصر الحديث تختلف بشكل كبير عنها في العصور القديمة والوسطى. وهذا ما سيلمسه القارئ من خلال تتبعه لهذه السلسلة التي عرضت فيها الدكتورة راوية عبد المنعم عباس لتاريخ الفكر الفلسفي في العصر الحديث والمعاصر، من خلال تناولها لروادها الذين كانوا وبحث أساطيناً للفلسفة في هذه الفترات الزمنية.
وقد خصت المؤلفة لكل فيلسوف مؤلف حمل السمة الفلسفية التي تميز بها. وللقارئ التعرف إليها إذ أن العنوان يحمل ما طمحت المؤلفة إلى إبرازه عند كل فيلسوف. ونذكرها على التوالي: 1-ديكارت والفلسفة العقلية، 2-مالبرانش والفلسفة الإلهية، 3-بليز بسكال وفلسفة الإنسان، 4-جون لوك إمام الفلسفة التجريبية، 5-المذهب الحسّي عند كوندياك، 6-الموقف الفلسفي عن آلان وصلته بفن الحياة. وتجدر الإشارة بأن المؤلفة عمدت وفي بداية هذه السلسلة بتناول مسائل هامة، اقتضاها البحث في هذا الموضوع أي تاريخ الفكر الفلسفي الحديث والمعاصر، كمسألة البداية التاريخية الحقيقية للعصور الحديثة، والخصائص العامة التي يتميز بها الفكر الفلسفي الحديث، ثم أخيراً منهج الدراسة المتبع فيه.
