في مجموعته الشعرية "إما أنا ... أو فلا" يسعى الشاعر سعد صلال إلى خلق فلسفة شعرية تقترب من الحياة الواقعية التي يحياها الناس، يكون معها الشعر تعبيراً عن مكنونات الآخر وقلقه الوجودي، ويفعل ذلك عبر قوة التأمل التي تجعل من يكتب فيلسوفاً حتى في شعره:
"أيها الساقي إسقنيها وراقب / كل شيخ فيه طفلٌ مشاغب / أيها الساقي اسقنيها حلالاً / لا حراماً في قواميس ناهب (...)". إنه الشاعر الذي سيوحد لعلاقة الشعر بالفلسفة كما فعل غيره في زمن الشعر الأصيل كالمعري والمتني وآخرون، ويظهر ذلك في مستويات لغوية يصرّح بها حيناً ويبطنها حيناً آخر بقيماته الحياتية التي تبقى عنده أعلى القيمات: "حياتي هجاء والهجاء إذا مضر / طويلاً مع التكرار فهو مديح / وروحي قرار لا سماحة بعده / وهل بعد روحي في القرار سميح / إذا الروح تلميذ وأنت معلم / فلا أنت إنسان ولا هي روح ...؟". هذا البوح الغامض الشفيف للألم وكأنه إنتصار للنفس على النفس هو ما يميز الشاعر الذي بدا وكأنه يقدم جدلاً لذيذاً للحياة يتجه نحو أفق مفتوح يفصح عن ثقافة شاعر وتعب الكتابة.
يضم الكتاب ما يقارب السبعين قصيدة في الشعر العربي الحدث والشعر الموزون والمقفّى جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "عافت أصابع قفازي" ، "بين ليلة وضحاها" ، "أيها الكافر" ، "الأحمر الأزرق" ، "كرستال" ، "في شفاه الأفق" ، "الرجال النخيل" (...) وقصائد أخرى.
