يحتل الوطن العربي مساحة شاسعة تمتد من المحيط الأطلنطي إلى الخليج العربي ومن شواطئ الأطلنطي إلى خليج عمان. وقد كانت هذه الأرض موطناً لكثير من الأحداث الهامة في التاريخ مما جعلها تخطى باهتمام الباحثين والدارسين في شتى المجالات وكان من الطبيعي أيضاً أن يعني علماء الجغرافيا بدراسة جغرافية الوطن العربي.
والمؤلف يقدم في هذا الكتاب دراسة متكاملة لملامح الوطن العربي الجغرافية. والكتاب يقع في قسمين خصص القسم الأول لدراسة تمهيدية لجغرافية الوطن العربي ويعرض للتطور الجيولوجي للوطن العربي والتكوينات الخاصة بكل زمن من الأزمنة، وللحركات التكتونية وأثر البينة في التضاريس كما يبحث القسم الأول في مناخ الوطن العربي، إذ بسبب موقع الوطن العربي أصبح واقعاً ضمن الإقليم الصحراوي بمعظمه. ثم يتطرق لدراسة التربة والسكان والإنتاج الزراعي والحيواني والصناعي. ويعرض لدراسة أهم مصادر الطاقة في العالم (البترول) حيث برزت أهمية بترول الوطن العربي الذي أضفى أهمية استراتيجية للمنطقة وجعلها من مناطق الصراع والتنافس الدولي.
أما القسم الثاني من الكتاب فهو مخصص لدراسة تفصيلية لأجزائه المختلفة حيث يدرس المؤلف كل وحدة بشكل منفرد. وقدم المؤلف لذلك بدراسة تمهيدية لتطوي الخريطة السياسية للعالم العربي التي ترجع في معظمها إلى عمليات التفتيش السياسي للغنيمة التي استلبتهما القوى البحرية الأوروبية من الدولة العثمانية. وقد ركز المؤلف على الجانب الاقتصادي لكل وحدة.
