أحدهم سرق الباب. في الليل أو في النهار، لا فرق. الباب لم يعد موجوداً. بدلاً من أن نضحك صرنا نبكي. لقد انتظرنا مئات السنين، جيلاً بعد جيل أمامه. شقت أدعيتنا السماء بلهاثها من أجل أن يشفق علينا ملاك ليعيننا بعصاه أو بوقه أو بكلمة سرية يحملها خفق جناحيه على فتح الباب. صحيح أننا كنا نحلم غير أننا لم نكن كسالى. لقد صنعنا مفاتيح من الدم ومن الدمع ومن الأناشيد ومن العرق ومن النار ومن الغيوم ومن الصراخ ومن الرماد ومن الحروف ومن الحبر ومن الرمل ومن الخمر ومن الفراشات ومن الدخان ومن الخبز ومن الكوابيس ومن الشهوات ومن البرق ومن الصحارى ومن الحجر ومن الغبار ومن الرحيق ومن السعال ومن الريش ومن الحروب ومن الهذيان ومن اليباس ومن الهواء، حتى الهواء من حولنا، كل قبضة منه صارت مفتاحاً. امتلأت بيوتنا وثيابنا ورقابنا وصدورنا وقلوبنا وكهوفنا وشقوق أحذيتنا وضحكات نسائنا وصفحات كتبنا وصناديقنا وحقولنا وعيون أطفالنا بالمفاتيح. غير أن مفتاحاً واحداً منها لم يعنا على فتح ذلك الباب العنيد. لكن حين سرق أحدهم الباب لم نر وراءه إلا جداراً. يومها شعرنا بالأسى. لقد كان وجوده يهب حياتنا نوعاً من المعنى. الآن هل يمكنكم أن تتخيلوا الجحيم الذي رمينا فيه ونحن نقف أمام جدار لا باب فيه؟
