من أهم المشاكل المقلقة التي تزعج الأفكار المسيحية اليوم هي أن إستعمال الكتاب المقدس في نظر الكثيرين من خدام الدين لغز يصعب حلّه، فالبعض يظهرون هذه الصعوبة يتجنب أسفار وإصحاحات بكاملها، حتى أنه ليس من قوة على الأرض تقدر أن تجذبهم إلى فصول معينة كانت في الماضي مجد التفاسير الدينية والعظات التي كانت تلقى في الكنائس.
وتبرز للبعض الآخر الصعوبة نفسها عند إختيارهم آيات معينة يستمدون من معانيها عظاتهم لا تلك المعاني التي كان يستعملها الواعظون بالأمس، بل يتخذون منها أساسات يبنون عليها أفكارهم وآراءهم الخاصة، والبعض يتولاهم الإرتباك والحيرة عند محاولتهم بحث بعض المشاكل المتعلقة بالكتاب المقدس، كالعجائب مثلاً، لا ريب أن إتخاذ موقف تجاه الكتاب المقدس أمر يستحق كل عناية وجهد حتى ولو كان ذلك لعدد قليل عن خدام الدين الذين يجاهدون هذه الفوضى فينالون المساعدة التي تمكنهم من إستعمال الكتاب بالمقدس على الطريقة المثلى.
بالإضافة إلى ذلك فإن فهم الكتاب المقدس منهجاً صحيحاً يختتم على كل فرد مسيحي، وذلك إذا أراد أن يفهم الدين فهماً صحيحاً، من أجل هؤلاء وأولئك يأتي هذا الكتاب الذي يجيب كل مؤمن مسيحي قراءته قراءة واعية لأنه إنما يمثل إنطلاقة فكرية جدية في عالم الإيمان، إنها إنطلاقة جدية تتحدى العقول المفكرة ولا تكتفي بالإيمان القائم على العاطفة التي تتأرجح وقد تفتر.
إنه تحدٍّ للمفهوم السطي والمغلوط والعاطفي عن الكتاب المقدس، إنه المنبه الذي يذكر كل مؤمن بعدم الإكتفاء بمفهوم سطحي لكتابه، بل عليه أن يغوص في عمق كل صفحة من صفحاته حتى يخرج في التجربة بقناعة ومناعة، فيعود من رحلته هذه باللباب دون القشور.
هذا الكتاب يجب أن يقرأه كل مؤمن بتروٍّ ليحذر الأعذار في مهاوي الأفكار المتحجرة والتي لا تمت إلى الإيمان بصلة، وكي يكون بإستطاعته مواجهة تيارات التزمت الرافض لكل إنطلاقة تحرر للبحث في مضمون الإيمان المسيحي والمقومات لمياه الروح.
