يحيط هذا الكتاب بجغرافية البحار والمحيطات ويقدم مؤلفاه دراسة جغرافية في النشأة والتكوين والأهمية وذلك من خلال الكشف عن موارد الثروة الإقتصادية والمصايد العالمية بالبحار والمحيطات، كذلك طرقت الدراسة موضوع الحدود السياسية الدولية ودور البحار والمحيطات فيها، والتعرف على اقسام المياه المالحة (كالمحيط والبحر والخليج والمضيق المائي ثم البرزخ)، كما تضمن البحث تحليلاً علمياً (لخلفية الأساطير البحرية على اعتبار أن مفتاح المعرفة الأوقيانوسية قد بدأ من "بوابة مصغرة لها هي "البحار"، كما تم التطرق إلى نظريات وفرضيات كيفية تكوين أحواض المحيطات وتحليل نظريتي الزحزحة القارية والصحائف التكوينية وهما الآن من النظريات العلمية ذات الوزن أو الثقف العلمي الهام والذي لا يمكن إغفاله في مجال تطوير العلوم الجغرافية وخاصة الطبيعية منها، فضلاً عن البحث عن كيفية تكوين مياه الغلاف المائي للمحيطات باعتبارها مياه "كونية فطرية"، ثم مياه الإنبثاق التكوينية أو البركانية، كما احتل موضوع "الغُمر البحري" ومخلفاته على كتل اليابسة التي تجاورها، ومثله عرض البحث لمشكلة التلوث المائي بالبحار وبين المندفعات البحرية، ولمزيد من الفائدة تم الإستعانة بخرائط تطورية في مجال فن التكنيك الكارتوجرافي مع التعليق عليها والشرح لمضمونها.
