نشر بعض القصص القصيرة والمقالات في الجرائد والمجلات المحلية مثل مجلة “نزوى” الثقافية.
عمل طبيبا اختصاصيّا في الطب النفسي بمستشفى الأمراض النفسية العام في مسقط.
مُنعت روايته “الوخز” الصادرة في عام 2005 لفترة قبل أن يتم الإفراج عنها من قبل سلطات الرقابة.
يناقش حسين العبري في أعماله الأدبية القضايا الاجتماعية والسياسية التي يمر بها المجتمع العماني.
اُختير للمشاركة في مهرجان (بيروت 39) الذي هدف إلى تقديم نظرة جديدة إلى الأدب العربي المعاصر، وهو نتاج تعاون بين مؤسسة هاي فيستيفال وبيروت عاصمة عالمية للكتاب لعام 2009.

اسمعني جيداً. لن أكرر كلامي. لن يكون ثمة حديث آخر. لقد مللت من كل هذا. مللت من طبيعتك الفاسدة وانحرافاتك. أنت لا تتقدم ولا تفهم. إنك تتحداني وتنكر سلطتي. أخبرني: ما الذي ينقصك ما الذي لم أقدمه لك؟ لكنك لا ترضى وتحسب أنك أعلى. أنت غبي وفاشل. هل أحدثك عما فعلته في الأسبوع الماضي؟ أنت لا تذكر بالطبع لن تذكر، لأنك لا زلت تتصرف بطريقتك الطفولية الجاهلة. هيا أيها العارف الكبير هيا أخبرني: هل تدرك الفضيحة التي فعلتها؟ لقد حطمت سمعتي أيها النذل وأذللتني. يوقفونك بصحبة فتاة غريبة في سيارتك ثم يكتشفون أنك مخمور وتخبرهم أنني أمرتك أن تفعل هذا وتبلغ بك الجرأة أن تتسلق البرج. أنت فقط تخادع نفسك أيها الملعون. تريد أن تقتلني حتى ترجع وتقول لهم: مات. ألا تعلم أنني جالس هنا على برجي إلى الأبد؟ ألم يخطر لك أنني ربما لا أموت؟.
