هذا الكتاب هو السادس من سلسلة الكتب الفلكية التي عكف "عماد مجاهد" على تأليفها منذ بداية العقد الماضي، وهو بعنوان "تاريخ علم الفلك" من عصر الأهرامات إلى عصر الفضاء، ليحكي للقارئ العربي قصة علم الفلك الجميل والماتع منذ أقدم العصور، حيث بدأ الإنسان الأول يرنو ببصره نحو السماء وحتى العصر الحاضر حيث شيد المراصد الفلكية الضخمة، وأرسل المركبات الفضائية التي زارت أعضاء مجموعتنا الشمسية، وسافرت بعضها إلى عالم النجوم تحمل رسائل إلى جيرانا الذين نتوقع وجودهم في الكون الواسع، لعلنا نعرف يوماً أننا لسنا وحدنا في الكون.
ولأن الكتاب موجه للقارئ العربي العادي وخاصة طلاب المدارس والجامعات والمثقفين، فقد راعى المؤلف أن نكون لغة الكتاب بسيطة وسهلة الفهم دون الخوض في التعقيدات التي تبعد القارئ عن هذا العلم الجميل.
يعتبر علم الفلك من أقدم العلوم الإنسانيّة على الإطلاق، فقد بدأ مع بداية حياة الإنسان على كوكب الأرض، حيث أخذ يرنو ببصره نحو السماء التي سحرته بجمالها وبريق نجومها الأخّاذ، كما جذبت الأحداث الفلكيّة، التي كانت تقع بين الحين والآخر، فكر الإنسان، وأشغلته منذ آلاف السنين.
وقد ظهر، عبر التاريخ الإنسانيّ، العديد من العلماء الذين قدموا للبشرية العديد من الأرصاد الفلكية والدراسات العلمية للأجرام السماوية، والذين انتسبوا للعديد من الحضارات التي ظهرت عبر العصور المختلفة، كالحضارة الفرعونية وحضارات وادي الرافدين والحضارة اليونانية والصينية والهندية، ثم الحضارة العربية الإسلامية في القرون الوسطى، وحتى الحضارة الأوروبية في العصر الحديث، بالإضافة إلى عصر الفضاء والسفر إلى النجوم.
ويقدّم المؤلف في هذا الكتاب موجزاً متميّزاً يحكي فيه قصة تطوّر علم الفلك من أقدم العصور حتى العصر الحاضر بأسلوب سهل ومكثف وبعيد عن التعقيد، مستعيناً بالرسومات والأشكال التوضيحية التي تثري مادة الكتاب وتقرّبه إلى القارئ. إنه كتاب تحتاج إليه مكتبة كل قارئ عربي.
