يشكل كتاب "العالم مادة وحركة" للأديب الفلسطيني "غالب هلسا" رؤية جديدة مختلفة إلى متغيرات جمة فيما يتصل بطبيعة الصراعات السائدة في قرني الدولة الإسلامية الأول والثاني، وفي طريقة النظر إلى ما يتعلق بدور الاسلام في العالم، ودوره في العلاقة بين العرب والفرس والاتراك.
يضم الكتاب دراسات في الفلسفة العربية والاسلامية تأتي في سياق واحد وتدرس ظواهر مختلفة في الحياة السياسية والعقلية والأبية في حقبة العباسيين الأولى، ورغم أن هذه الدراسات لا تقتصر على ذلك الواقع، وتتعدى ذلك إلى الفلسفة والمنطق إلاَ أن ما خرج منها يخدم في النهاية الموضوعة الكبيرة: موضوعة "المستجدات" في الحياة العقلية والأدبية في عصر العباسيين الأول.
وفي حين قارن "غالب هلسا" حركة المجان بالإتجاه الإنساني في أوروبا ما قبل الثورة الصناعية، حاول أن ينظر إلى الأمر كله من ضمن مبدئيات نمط الانتاج الأسيوي، مركزاً في ذلك كله فيما يتصل بالحياة العقلية (الفكرية)، على موقع الفئات المثقفة آنذاك من السلطة، وموقع تلك السلطة من المجتمع، ولكن أياً تكن وجهة نظر المؤلف في ظواهر وصراعات بل، وتناقضات تلك الحقبة، فالذي لا شك فيه أنها تمصل رؤية جديدة لكثير من أجزاء الموضوع، وطرحها للنقاش مفيداً في بلورة مفاهيم ما يزال الخلاف حولها قائماً حتى عصرنا الحاضر.
