يجمع المؤلف بين طيات هذا الكتاب دراسة معمقة تدور حول "سعد الله ونوس" الكاتب الذي لم يكن كاتب نصوص فقط، بل كان حالة ثقافية ومحرضاً ثراً للحياة الثقافية عبر فترة طويلة نظراً لأن نصوصه كانت تنقد الحياة العربية فكراً واجتماعاً وسياسة، فقد طرح هموم الإنسان العربي عبر ما كتب وما قدم، وكل ما سبق كان ينطوي تحت إطار رؤية فكرية عمقها بمرور الأيام، ووسع مداليلها مرحلة إثر مرحلة، الأمر الذي جعلها دائمة التجدد والمواكبة لما يحدث على الساحة العربية التي مرت بسيل من التقلبات والأجواء عبر أربعين عاماً...
أما الخطة التي اتبعها المؤلف في بحثه فقد جاءت على النحو التالي: أولاً: تحدث عن تاريخ المسرح العربي منذ بداياته إلى يومنا هذا، مركزاً على الجوانب الرئيسية في حركة هذا المسرح والعوامل التي ساهمت في عرقلته وتطويره والآفاق التي وصل إليها... ثانياً: عرض المؤلف لحركة المسرح العربي السوري منذ أبي خليل القباني إلى يومنا هذا، وذلك للتعرف على أطوار هذا المسرح وعوامل تطوره؛ وأهم الأعلام المؤثرين في مسيرته وذلك للوصول إلى خصوصية تجربة "سعد الله ونوس" في المسرحين العربي والسوري. ثالثاً: أن قضايا مسرح ونوس واستلهامه للتراث العربي والغربي وما اتهم به فرض ضرورة مناقشة قضايا عديدة منها النقل، التأصيل، والترجمة، وهل عرفنا المسرح أم لم نعرفه؟ مع محاولة الاستفادة مما طرحه الآخرون في هذا الميدان ومناقشته، كما وقدم المؤلف رؤية في مسرح ونوس وكتبه، مركزاً على أبرز ما قدمه، ليقف بعد ذلك وقفة خاصة لتحليل مسرحيته (الأيام المخمورة) وبعد ذلك ختم الرؤية بالحديث عن أهم مكونات مسرحه وتقنياته وأركانه.
