مؤلف مقالات هذا الكتاب غني عن التعريف، فهو من أساتذة جامعة دمشق الاعلام، وله مؤلفات عديدة في اختصاصه النحو والصرف، وقد جمع في كتابه هذا عدداً من المقالات التي كان قد نشرها في الصحف والمجلات بين عامي 1989 و2000 وجميع هذه المقالات تتصل بالثقافة مثل المناهج التعليمية، والعملية التدريسية، وموضوعات اللغة العربية، والأدب والشعر، والفن، وشخصيات لها صلة بالثقافة، وقد جعل عنوانها أحد الأحاديث من الكتاب. ويقول المؤلف أن ما شجعه لنشر هذه المقالات هو أنه وجد عدداً من الملاحظات، والاقتراحات، ووجهات النظر التي كانت خاصة به أحياناً والتي تضمنتها بعض المقالات قد حُققت، أو وجدت آذاناً صاغية عند من خاطبتهم، ولم يكن كما يقال "حكي جرائد" ووجد أيضاً أن ثمة دوراً للكلمة، كما وجد أيضاً أن كتابه الزاوية الصحفية ليست إلا نوعاً من أنواع الكتابة الأدبية، فكم من أديب سهرته زاوية تأخذ جانباً من جوانب الصفحة الواحدة فهي تفرض على صاحبها قدرة ما على الكتابة، ولغة خاصة بها، وأفكاراً واقتراحات ووسائل تتصل بما يحيط به.
