يجيب المؤلف "إنها الإرتفاع فوق ترهات الحياة، والتعاطف مع الناس، والتفاؤل، والهدوء، والتأمل .. وأخيراً فهم القوانين البسيطة التي يتقوم عليها الحياة".

لماذا ينظر إلى الخطاب العربي المعاصر على أنّه فيه ما فيه من الغيبوبة وعدم الفعالية والإغتراب؟!...
هل لأن القضايا التي ينشغل بها المشاركون في صنع الفكر العربي المعاصر تعود إلى موضوعات مضى على طرحها أكثر من قرن، كقضية المرأة، والأقليات، والهوية، والعروبة والإسلام؟..
أم لأنها قضايا تبدو تخص مجتمعاً آخر في زمن آخر كمفهوم القومية والنهضة والحداثة!... لماذا لم يكن خطاباً فاعلاً مؤثراً قادراً على تغيير الواقع وتطويره أو تهذيبه أو تحسين أدائه؟...
فيطرح مثلاً موضوعات تخص الشباب، والتحولات الإقتصادية، والصراعات العربية، وتجارب الوحدة، وفشل الإصلاح السياسي، وعدم الإستفادة من ثورة المعلومات، لماذا لا يشعر المثقف العربي بالواقع بدرجة أكثر حساسية؟!...
ولماذا يخلق واقعاً من داخل ذاته ثم يعالجه بعيداً عن الواقع الحقيقي؟!!...
هذه الأسئلة وغيرها، مما يؤرق كل مواطن حريص على أن يرى بلده في مصاف الدولة المتقدمة، يتداولها عالمان قديران بالعلوم السياسية كلٌّ حسب وجهة نظره.
