وكانت القوات المسلحة الأردنية محط الرعاية والإهتمام الدائمين من القيادة الهاشمية، حيث نمت القوات المسلحة الأردنية من حيث الإعداد والتجهيز بخطوات جبارة لا تتناسب والقدرات الإقتصادية للمملكة بل فاقت ذلك بمراحل بفعل الجهد المتواصل من القيادة الهاشمية وإخلاص وتفاني الأردنيين الأخيار الأغيار الذين لم يخيبوا ظن قيادتهم وآمالها في إمتلاك مقومات القوة والتطور.
لقد جاء هذا الكتاب كتطوير لورقة بحثية كنت قد أجريتها في عام 2001، وقد وجدت أنه من المناسب العمل عليها لتصبح كتاباً بتداوله العامة والباحثين لأهمية الموضوع ومحدودية المراجع البحثية التي تناولت تطور القوات المسلحة الأردنية.
لقد جاء الكتاب في أربعة فصول حرصنا أن نقدم في الفصل الأول عجالة عن الإطار التاريخي لتطور القوات المسلحة، والفصل الثاني تناول تجارب التصنيع العسكري في الدول النامية العربية والإسلامية، أما الفصل الثالث وهو تطور الصناعات العسكرية في القوات المسلحة الأردنية، أما الفصل الأخير فقد تناول الإستخلاصات والتوصيات التي اجتهدنا أنها يمكن أن تقدم مقترحات لتطوير الصناعة العسكرية الأردنية والعربية.
