تشكل السياسة الخارجية لدولة المغول الأيلخانيين أحد العوامل الفاعلة في تاريخ النصف الثاني من القرن السابع الهجري/ النصف الثاني من القرن الثالث عشر الميلادي، ذلك ان للسياسي الخارجية التي إتبعتها هذه الدولة أثرها الكبير على الدول المعاصرة لها، كما أن رد الفعل تجاهها أدى إلى متغيرات في هذه السياسة، بل كان عاملاً من عوامل إنهيارها بعد ثمانية عقود من نشوئها، وقد إكتنف ذلك متغيرات في جوانب أخرى حاولت هذه الدراسة الكشف عنها عبر مقدمة وخمسة فصول وخاتمة، إستهلت المقدمة بمدخل عن نشأة الدولة الأيلخائية وتكوينها، أما الفصل الأول فقد عني بدراسة السياسة الخارجية للدول الأيلخائية تجاه القوى السياسية في العراق وآسيا الصغرى، في حين يرتكز الفصل الثاني على دراسة هذه السياسة تجاه القوى المغولية الأخرى ومنها القبيلة الذهبية، ومفعول صفتاي، أما الفصل الثالث فبحث في السياسة الخارجية للدولة الأيلخانية تجاه القوى السياسية في بلاد الشام تجاه الأيوبيين وفرنج الساحل، أما الفصل الرابع فقد تناول السياسة الخارجية للدولة الأيخائية تجاه دولة المماليك البحرية، وشملت مباحثه كل من الأيلخانات: هولاغو، أباقاخان، أحمد تكودار، غازان، أولجايتو خذابتده، وعهد (بو سعيد)، وأما الفصل الخامس قد تناول السياسة الخارجية للدولة الأيلخانية تجاه الغرب الأوروبي، وأنهيت الدراسة بخاتمة و(ملاحق) تضمنت: رسالة صادرة من الأيلخان آرغون إلى فيليب الرابع ملك فرنسا سنة (688هـ/ 1289م)، ورسالة أخرى صادرة من الأيلخان أولجايتو خدابنده إلى الملك فيليب الرابع ملك فرنسا (704هـ/1304م).
