نظراً لأهمية الجانب التصويري وما يقوم عليه من الخيال في العملية الإبداعية في الشعر العربي وقلة الاهتمام به، جاءت هذه الدراسة الجمالية التحليلية للصورة الاستدارية تهدف الى ابراز طرف يسير من جماليات الشعر العربي، لم تحظ بغير قسط محدود جداً من عناية النقاد والبلاغيين القدامى عبر عدة نماذج وشواهد متناثرة، لم تقدر على تجلية مظاهرها الجمالية وطاقاتها الفنية وأبعادها الفكرية.
وتعد هذه دراسة تحليلية فاحصة، تكشف ما أمكن عن جمالياتها وتقنياتها في ضوء منهج لا حب يقوم على أربعة فصول: جاء الفصل الأول منها لدراسة "الصورة الاستدارية" في صور علم البديع، أما الفصل الثاني فقد بحث أصداء الصورة الاستدارية في ديوان الشعر العربي، ومبلغ عناية الشعر بها، ودرس الفصل الثالث تشكيل الصورة الاستدارية وتبيان منهجية الشعراء في رسمها، أفرد المؤلف الفصل الرابع لبحث أشهر مجالات الصورة الاستدارية وميادينها وهي "الغزل والمرأة"، و"الرثاء والوجد والحزن"، ثم المديح.
