يدور موضوع الكتاب حول الدعاء وآدابه وأحواله، وخير من كتب وجمع في هذا الموضوع "ابن قيم الجوزية" في كتابه المعرف "الوابل الصيب من الكلم الطيب" يزود بها المؤمنون بهدف اختيار الدعاء الذي يعجز لسان أحدنا في كثير من الأحوال عن النطق به. وفي هذا الكتاب مجموع أحاديث مأثورة في الدعوات والأذكار يشرحها ابن القيم يبدأها بمقدمة في فضل الذكر وأهميته، يتبعها بخمسة وسبعين فصلاً من الأدعية التي لا ينبغي للمسلم تركها يمكن التعرف عليها في فصول هذا الكتاب والتي نذكر منها: الأذكار الموظفة في الليل والنهار وأذكار النوم.. في أدعية الصلاة بعد التشهد.. في الأذكار الجالية للرزق الدافعة للضيق، في التذكر عند نزول الغيث، في الذكر عند الغطاس.. في أذكتر الكرب والغم والحزن، في أحب الكلام إلى الله بعد القرآن، في التسليم للقضاء والقدر، في جوامع ادعية النبي محمد صلة الله عليه وسلم وتعويذاته إلى غير ذلك من أذكار تقرب المسلم من ربه، والتي تشبع في داخله الطمأنينة والسكينة في الحياة الدنيا، وحسن العاقبة في الآخرة.
