ليس الكتاب الذي بين يديك كتاب (رجال) بالمعنى المصطلح. أي أنه لا يبحث -فقط- أحوال الرواة من جهة تحملهم للرواية، ومن جهة وثاقتهم، وعدمها.. وإنما يحاول هذا الكتاب البحث عن (حياة) 65 رجلاً من رجال الإسلام في مختلف أدوارهم ومواقفهم وإسهاماتهم في حركة الدين والأمة. وهذا الجانب يصعب العثور عليه، عادة، فكتب التاريخ لا تتحدث عن إلا ما يرتبط منه بالحروب والأحداث السياسية الكبرى وكتب الرجال متخصصة من جهة فليست في متناول العموم لغة وأسلوباً، ومن جهة أخرى فإنها تنظر إلى هذه الشخصية أو تلك من زاوية روايتها للحديث.. وصدقها أو عدمه.. فلا تسجل (مواقف) ولا ترصد تاريخاً، إلا نادراً؟
لذلك غابت مواقف هؤلاء الأبطال، وسيرة حياتهم -في الغالب- عن حاضر الأمة.
