لقد كانت النشأة العامة للتعاون إنسانية الهوية إنطلاقاً من حقيقة أن الإنسان مدني بالطبع كما جاء في مقدمة "ابن خلدون" حيث أن هناك أوجه للتكامل في العمل البشري بحكم ضرورة توزيع العمل والضرورة وعجز الإنسان الفرد عن تحقيق كل رغباته بمفرده.
وقد خضعت ظاهرة التعاون لعدة مؤثرات إضافة إلى ما سلف، وقد عرف التاريخ أشكالاً من التعاون في الفكر اليوناني القديم، وحثت الكتب السماوية على التضامن والتعاون، ورافقت أشكال التعاون بين البشر أنماطاً للعمل المشترك بأهداف متفاوتة كالشركات والنقابات والأحزاب وكذلك المنظمات التعاونية، وقد أنضجت أحداث عالمية كثيرة فكرة التعاون لتقدمها بالصورة التي سنتعرف بها عليها من حيث المدلول اللغوي يعني التعاون العمل المشترك الذي يتضمن مفاهيم الخير والمؤازرة والتضامن والمساعدة.
وهذا الكتاب يهدف إلى: 1-شرح التعاون والجمعية التعاونية؛ 2-تفسير الخلفية التاريخية والحضارية والفكرية التي أفرزت الفكر التعاوني وتشرح المضمون الفلسفي والإجتماعي والإقتصادي للفترة التاريخية التي سبقت الحركة التعاونية، 3مناقشة المؤثرات الفكرية والأهداف السياسية والدينية والإقتصادية التي فادت إلى ظهور الفكر التعاوني متمثلاً بمؤثرات الثورة الصناعية والثورة الفرنسية والحركات الدينية، 4-وصف موقف الأديان من التعاون، 5-شرح أشكال التعاون التنظيمية.
وقد قُسِم إلى ستة أقسام: القسم الأول: أصول التعاون الإنسانية بالفطرة، القسم الثاني: مفهوم التعاون وأهدافه ويحقق الهدف الأول، القسم الثالث: أصول الفكر التعاوني ويحقق الهدف الثاني، القسم الرابع: علاقة الثورة الصناعية والثورة الفرنسية وحركة التنوير البروتستنتية بالحركة التعاونية ويحقق الهدف الثالث، القسم الخامس: التعاون في الكتب السماوية، ويحقق الهدف الرابع، القسم السادس: أشكال التعاون التنظيمية: شركات ونقابات وأحزاب ومنظمات تعاونية، ويحقق الهدف الخامس.
