إن الحديث عن حقوق الإنسان حديث الأمس واليوم والغد تتلقاه القلوب بمتعة وبهجة، لأنه حديث الفطرة، وهو موضوع من أهم الموضوعات ذات الأولوية على الصعيدين المحلي والدولي.
ونظراً لأهميته أصبح من المقررات الدراسية في كثير من الجامعات، وخاصة في الكليات ذات العلاقة، ككليات الشريعة والقانون والعلوم السياسية والتربية، إذ أن تدريس الحقوق وتحليل مضمونها وتبيان حدودها وعرض موضوعها القانوني أصبح واجباً على عاتق الجامعات وذلك من أجل تعميق وترسيخ فكرة حقوق الإنسان في وجدان الطلبة.
من هنا، جاء هذا الكتاب في اثنتي عشرة وحدة تتناول أساسيات حقوق الإنسان والتربية في الوحدة الأولى تم التعرف إلى مفاهيم أساسية كالحق والإنسان والحرية، وفي الوحدة الثانية تم التعرف إلى التطور التاريخي لحقوق الإنسان والأساس الفكري لهذه الحقوق، أما الوحدة الثالثة فتم استعراض بنود الإعلان العالمي لحقوق الإنسان الذي جاء في ديباجة وثلاثين مادة، وأما الوحدة الرابعة فقد شملت دراسة لأهم الحقوق والحريات الأساسية.
أما الوحدة الخامسة فجاءت بعنوان حقوق الأقليات وشملت كلا من عرب إسرائيل وجنوب إفريقيا والوحدة السادسة تم فيها إستعراض بنود الإعلان الإسلامي لحقوق الإنسان والوحدة السابعة تم فيها إستعراض بنود العهد الدولي الخاص بالحقوق المدنية والسياسية والوحدة الثامنة تم فيها إستعراض بنود العهد الدولي الخاص بالحقوق الإقتصادية والإجتماعية والثقافية والوحدة التاسعة تم فيها مناقشة إتفاقية جنيف حيث تم عرض للإتفاقية وإشكالية تعريف اللاجئ وولاية المفوضية السامية.
أما الوحدة العاشرة فجاءت بعنوان ضمانات حماية حقوق الإنسان وحرياته على المستويين الدولي والإقليمي، أما الوحدة الحادية عشرة فجاءت بعنوان بيئة صفية آمنة، وفي الوحدة الثانية عشرة تم مناقشة وظائف المدرسة في التربية على حقوق الإنسان، والحاجة إلى الديمقراطية، والعلاقة التكاملية بين التربية الديمقراطية.
